Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged scientists to develop low cost technologies to cater to the country's specific requirements and help in fast-tracking India's growth. He was interacting with scientists from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune yesterday.

Scientists made presentations to the Prime Minister on varied topics ranging from New Materials and devices for Clean Energy application to Agricultural Biotechnology and Natural Resource mapping. The presentations also showcased cutting edge technologies in the field of Molecular Biology, Antimicrobial resistance, Climate studies and Mathematical Finance research. The Prime Minister appreciated the scientists for their informative presentations. Mr Modi visited the Pune campus and interacted with students and researchers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the All India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police in Pune. He held a day-long discussion with them on internal security-related issues.

The three-day conference will conclude in Pune today. Prime Minister will address the concluding session.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the second day of the National Conference of DGP and IGPs in Pune. He addressed these Prime Law Enforcement Officials and also had a day long interaction with them. The convention, which began in the C.V.Raman auditorium of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research is also being attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the government is working on more steps including rationalisation of income tax rates to revive the economy. Addressing a function in New Delhi, the Minister said, the intent of the government is to further simplify taxation systems, including removal of exemption. Ms Sitharaman said, the government has taken several measures during August and September to boost the economy.

"We want to make sure that the entire taxation structure is simplified, so we want to make sure that ifs and buts are removed, exemptions are removed and we proved our intentions when we came up with the corporate tax rate cut."

The Finance Minister assured the people that there will be no harassment of tax payers. She said public sector banks have disbursed nearly five lakh crore rupees in the last two months to boost consumption in the hinterland. On the goods and services tax, Ms Sitharaman said, the rate structure will have to be decided by the GST council.


The Income Tax department has conducted search operations at 39 locations across the country  to check alleged tax evasion by brokers and traders operating at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that the search operations were conducted at Mumbai, Kolkata, Kanpur, Delhi, Noida, Hyderabad and other places in transactions worth over 3,500 crore rupees.

The CBDT said, the search action has resulted in the seizure of unaccounted cash of one crore 20 lakh rupees.


A Nationwide GST Stakeholder Feedback Diwas for new GST returns was observed yesterday. The aim of organizing this event was to get an on-the-spot response to the new GST Returns to be introduced from the 1st of April next year. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) in a statement said, there has been an overwhelming response from GST stakeholders and several useful suggestions were received during the event. The programme was widely welcomed by GST stakeholders and tax professional.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman Pranab Kumar Das told AIR News, the focus was on assessing the ease of compliance and uploading of these new returns. He said, this is being done so that traders do not face any difficulty when the returns are made legally mandatory.

"These feedback session would be attended by all prominent Chambers of Commerce and industry, other organisations representing taxpayers and text practitioners and compliance managers. The tax officers shall be available to hand hold the taxpayers and assist them."


President Ram Nath Kovind has stressed the need for making justice accessible to all. He was addressing the inaugural function of the new building of Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur yesterday. The President urged judicial community to work for providing justice on time. He emphasized the need to provide legal service free of cost to needy and deprived people of society.

Speaking at the function, Chief Justice of India S.A Bobde said, justice must never ever take the form of revenge because justice loses its character when it becomes revenge.

"The criminal justice system must reconsider its position, must reconsider its attitude towards time, towards laxity and towards the eventual time it takes to dispose of a criminal matter. But I don't think justice can ever be and ought to be instant and justice must never ever take the form of revenge."

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, government has set up more than seven hundred Fast Track Courts for heinous offences. He said, over eleven hundred dedicated Fast Track Courts for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases and rape offences will be set up soon.

"भारत सरकार ने महिलाओं में बलात्कार POCSO  कांड के मामलों में बच्चों के साथ जो होता है तो 1023 फास्ट ट्रैक कोर्ट की स्थापना प्रस्तावित की है. राज्य सरकारों के साथ  लगभग 400 पर सहमति बन गई है और 160 से अधिक ऑपरेशनल हो गए  है इसके अलावा पूर्व से सात सौ चार फस्टट्रैक कोर्ट चल रहे हैं।"


Campaigning gains momentum for the remaining three phases of assembly elections in Jharkhand. After completion of two the first phases of polling, all political parties are now focussing on the remaining 48 seats.

17 constituencies spread over 8 districts will go to the polls on the 12th of this month in the third phase. In the fourth phase, polling will be held for 15 seats on the 16th of December.

Leaders of various political parties addressed rallies to woo the voters.

"Addressing election rally at Rajdhanwar in Giridih district Senior BJP leader and Chief Minister Raghubar Das said this election will ensure future and stability of Jharkhand. Senior Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha alleged in Tatisilwai that due to policies of BJP government people are forced to lead  miserable life. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren Jharkhand Vikas Morcha chief Babu Lal Marandi, AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto, RJD leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav and AIMIM party chief Asaduddin Owaisi also addressed rallies in support of their candidates. 64.84 percent voter turnout was recorded in the second phase of assembly elections held yesterday. The Maximum turnout of 75.36 percent was recorded in Baharagora assembly seat followed by 70.37 percent in Ghatshila.


A total of 799 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra in 24 states have been opened since the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana. These Kendra have benifited 12 lakh tribals across the country by providing market access to their products.

Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) Managing Director Pravir Krishn said, the recently concluded Aadi Mahotsav was a roaring success and in the course of 15 days, the participating 500 plus tribal artisans transacted business of worth 20 crore rupees which was a record sale. He said, TRIFED has collaborated with the renowned fashion designer Ritu Beri to promote tribal crafts and culture across the country and the world.


A Mumbai court refused to cancel a non-bailable warrant issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, a key accused in the PNB scam. Special judge for Prevention of Money Laundering Act cases VC Barde refused to give relief to Choksi yesterday. Choksi's counsel pleaded that his client could not travel to India because of his ill-health and also because there was a threat to his life.

The court will now hear the ED's petition seeking to declare him a Fugitive Economic Offender under the newly enacted Fugitive Economic Offenders Act. The declaration will pave the way for confiscation of his properties.


In Syria, 19 civilians including eight children were killed in air strikes bythe  regime and Russian forces in the country's last major opposition bastion yesterday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the air raids in the northwestern region of Idlib also injured  several others. The Idlib region is controlled by the country's former Al-Qaeda affiliate and the Damascus regime has repeatedly vowed to take back control of Idlib.


The United States has resumed peace negotiations with the Taliban in Doha, after President Donald Trump abruptly stopped  diplomatic efforts in September that could end America's longest war. A U.S. source told the media that the Afghan-born U.S. special reconciliation representative, Zalmay Khalilzad, is leading the US team at the meeting in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where the insurgent negotiators are based.

An agreement with the Taliban is expected to be based on two points : a US withdrawal from Afghanistan and a commitment by the militants not to offer sanctuary to terrorists. The Taliban's relationship with Al-Qaeda was the main reason for the US invasion nearly 18 years ago.


North Korea has conducted a test at its Sohae satellite launch site, state media reported today. The result of the test, which was carried out yesterday, will have an important effect on changing the strategic status of North Korea, a government spokesperson said. The media report did not specify what was tested, but the site has previously been used to launch rockets into space as well as test missile engines.

The test comes as North Korea has warned it could take a new path amid stalled denuclearization talks with the United States. Tensions have risen ahead of a year-end deadline set by North Korea, which has called on the United States to change its policy of insisting on Pyongyang’s unilateral denuclearization and demanded relief from punishing sanctions.


India will take on the West Indies in the second T-20 of the three match cricket series at Thiruvananthpuram today. The Match will start at 7 PM.

All India Radio will broadcast a live commentary on the match alternately in Hindi and English. It can be heard on the Rajdhani, FM Rainbow and additional frequencies from 6:30 PM. 

India defeated the visitors by six wickets in the first match at Hyderabad on Friday to take a 1-nil lead in the T-20 series.


India have crossed the 100 gold medal mark at 13th South Asian Games in Nepal. On the seventh day of competitions yesterday, India further consolidated its top position and breached the 200 mark in the overall medal tally. India have so far clinched 214 medals comprising 110 gold, 69 silver and 35 bronze.

Indian swimmers continued their outstanding performance and made a clean sweep of all seven events of the day. Indian Wrestlers made a brilliant start in their campaign by winning 8 golds four each in the women's and men's section.
