Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that Jammu and Kashmir has seen a new dawn post-abrogation of Article 370 and its transformation will be exemplary in the coming years. As a part of the Central Government’s Special Public Outreach Programme to disseminate information about its policies for the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir and its people, the Minister visited Jammu today and inaugurated several developmental projects.

Addressing a large gathering of Corporators, Sarpanchs and Panchs at the Convention Centre, Dr. Singh said, this programme is aimed at restoring the faith of the people of J&K and transform the Union Territory on modern lines. He said, the Central Government has approved a number of new developmental projects including those stalled for decades and taken important decisions for the welfare of people.

Earlier, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a sports stadium and also inaugurated a Smart Class Room Project at Gol Gujral, Jammu. Dr Singh also announced the establishment of Media Facilitation Centres in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh on the lines of the National Media Centre of New Delhi.

Union Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal also visited Samba district of Jammu and inaugurated a pending Water Supply Scheme and also interacted with local people. Another MoS Ashwini Kumar Choubey also addressed a gathering at the Jammu Press Club and felicitated different stakeholders for the successful implementation of Ayushman Bharat and other health schemes in the Union Territory.

"Dr. Jitendra Singh made it clear that this programme is not a political propaganda and the Central Government is determined to undo discrimination of the past meted out to the people of J&K. He also listed some significant decisions taken by the government in the last five months, saying this has happened for the first time in history that a whole cabinet is meeting common people at their doorsteps to listen to their grievances and seeking their feedback for effective implementation of different policies and initiatives. As part of the programme, nine Union Ministers will visit different blocks of Jammu Division  tomorrow and meet people to seek their feedback and suggestions, besides inaugurating several developmental projects. Pre-paid mobile connections were restored in Jammu and Kashmir today and 2G services resumed in two districts of the Kashmir valley after being disconnected in August last year. J&K Official Spokesperson Rohit Kansal has said that the Voice and SMS facilities were restored for all local pre-paid mobile phones across the Union Territory.

"Competent Authority has ordered today that voice and SMS facility in order to consider provision of Mobile Internet connectivity on such SIM card that telecome service providers shall initiate the process of verification of  credentials for these subscribers as per available norms for post paid  subscribers."

Internet service providers have been asked to provide fixed line Internet connectivity in all the 10 districts of Jammu region and two districts Kupwara and Bandipora in North Kashmir.

Telecom services were shut in entire Jammu and Kashmir on the 5th of August after the withdrawal of special status of former State of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and its bifurcation into two Union Territories.


BJP National President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the Congress of dividing the country on the basis of religion. Addressing a gathering during the CAA Janjagriti Maha Abhiyan at Hubli in Karnataka this afternoon , he said, the Congress is opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act as it is afraid of losing its vote-bank. Mr Shah challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to prove that the CAA would take away citizenship from Indian Muslims and advised him to read the act thoroughly..

The Home Minister said, the CAA is for granting of Citizenship, not for taking away as the Opposition parties claim.

Mr Shah requested the public to remove misconceptions from their minds and to become aware of the positive aspects of the Act.

The Home Minister further said, Opposition parties have no concern regarding national interest.


Congress leader and former Minister of Law and Justice Kapil Sibal today said that there is no way a state can deny implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act when it has already been passed by the Parliament and doing so would be unconstitutional. He was speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival in Kozhikode. He further said that, the states can oppose CAA, can pass a resolution in the Assembly and ask the Central Government to withdraw it, but saying that it won't implement the act is going to be problematic and going to create more difficulties.


Union Minister for Heavy Industries Prakash Javadekar today asked the power industry to focus on the quality of electrical equipment. He said, fire incidents in many cases are caused by the poor quality of equipment and faulty wiring. He urged the industry to become a part of the product chain and not just a supplier of spare parts. Mr. Javadekar was inaugurating ELECRAMA 2020, the flagship showcase of the Indian electrical industry, in Greater Noida. He said, the electrical industry is a platform to facilitate  the world to connect with India  in technology and  innovation. He stressed that electric vehicles are the future of the country as they are eco-friendly and helpful in reduction of carbon footprints.


Students, teachers and parents across India are eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interactive programme 'Pariksha Pe Charcha-2020'. The event will be held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on the 20th of this month.

Over two thousand students, parents and teachers will be participating from all over the country. Mr. Modi will answer questions and interact with selected students about how they can beat examination stress.

In January 2019, during the second edition of 'Pariksha Pe Charcha', the Prime Minister emphasized that parents should not put pressure on children to fulfill their own unfulfilled dreams. He said, every child has his or her own potential and strengths and it is important to understand this.

Talking to AIR News, Ms Lalremruati Sailo, a student of Class IX from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Aizawl said that she watched the previous edition of the Programme at her school with teachers and she is now very excited to participate in this year’s 'Pariksha Pe Charcha'.


India and Sri Lanka have agreed to further strengthen cooperation to ensure maritime security in the Indian Ocean region and the sharing of intelligence inputs. This was agreed upon at meeting of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval with Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his day-long visit to Colombo. President Rajapksa tweeted that strengthening of bilateral cooperation on national security, intelligence sharing, maritime security and fostering of regional cooperation were some of the key points of discussion. 


Congress has released its first list of 54 candidates for the ensuing Delhi Assembly elections. The party has fielded Alka Lamba from Chandani Chowk seat, former Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar and another former Minister Ashok Walia from Krishna Nagar seat. Party leader Haroon Yusuf will be the  candidate from Ballimaran seat.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of journalist and former Parliamentarian Ashwini Kumar Chopra. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he is anguished by the passing away of Ashwini Kumar Chopra, who will be remembered for his contribution to the media world.


Now moving onto News from the third Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati:

Karnataka continues to lead in swimming. The state won 17 medals including 10 golds so far in swimming. Maharashtra is leading the overall medal tally with 49 gold and 49 silver medals.  Harayana is following with 40 gold and 37 silver medals.

"Country's new swimming sensation from Karnataka Srihari Natraj won Gold in 100 meter backstroke today. This is his 14th gold in Khelo India. Natraj sets his target to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic.

Assam girl Shivangi Sarma and Karnataka's Khusi Dinesh also won 3 Gold each in swimming . Shivangi clinched Gold today in 400 meter freestyle in under 21 category and Khusi got in under 17 category.  Delhi boy Tanmay Das clinched gold in 100 meter backstroke in under 17 category.

In Lawn Bowls, Assam boy Sanjio and Abhikhar won gold in doubles. While  in Shooting,  Harayana's Kiran won Gold in girls Trap event in her second Khelo India games. UP won the title in mix event of 10 meter air pistol. With Shashank, Manas Pratim Sarma/AIR News, Guwahati.   


In cricket, India will take on Australia in the third and final One-Day International match at Bengaluru tomorrow. The match will be played from 1.30 p.m. The three match series is now at  level 1-1 after India defeated Australia in the second ODI at Rajkot yesterday by 36 runs.
