Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro in New Delhi today. Several agreements will be signed after the talks. Brazilian President will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day Parade tomorrow. Mr Bolsonaro will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind who will host a banquet in his honour today. Brazilian President is accompanied by eight Ministers, four members of Parliament, senior officials and a large business delegation.


This is the third time that a Brazilian President will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day. The Brazilian President arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a four-day visit to India.  Mr Modi has welcomed the Brazilian President. In a tweet, he said President Bolsonaro's visit will add strength to India-Brazil relations.


"The visit of Brazilian President will further enhance and strengthen the multi-faceted ties between India and Brazil. During his visit, President Bolsonaro will address Indian and Brazilian business leaders at the India-Brazil Business Forum. ​India and Brazil share a close relationship. Bilateral relations between both countries are based on common global vision, shared democratic values and commitment to foster economic growth. ​India has invested six billion dollar in Brazil whereas Brazilian investments in India is around one billion dollar. Brazilian investments in India are mainly in automobiles, IT, mining, energy and bio-fuels sectors. A delegation of 154 former judges, civil servants, armed forces officers, diplomats and intellectuals has demanded stern action against those trying to vitiate the atmosphere in the country under the garb of protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). In a representation to President Ram Nath Kovind, they said, self-serving elements, in conjunction with a section of the civil society, have embarked upon a malicious campaign of disinformation to mislead the innocent Indian public, especially the youth and a section of minorities. After meeting the President the delegation member, former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Justice Pramod Kohli said.


"यह मैमोरेंडम हमने राष्ट्रपति जी को दिया है। अपना कंसर्न शो किया है जो देश के अंदर बातें हो रही हैं। लेकिन जिस तरीके से प्रोटेस्ट किया जा रहा है असम की आज़ादी, कश्मीर की आज़ादी, आज़ादी के नारे लगाना और फिर वायलेंस करना और लोगों को बच्चों को स्कूल नहीं जाने देना हमारा कंसर्न यह है"

Meanwhile, Yog Guru Swami Ramdev has slammed those protesting against the CAA saying that a country is not run from streets but through Parliament. 


"सी... किसी की नागरिकता छीनने के लिये नहीं है। यह तो जो हमारे पड़ोसी मुल्कों से पाकिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान, बांग्लादेश से जो हमारे अल्पसंख्यक वहां पर जो भाई हैं उनको किसी भी प्रकार से सामाजिक, आर्थिक, राजनीतिक तौर से प्रताड़ित किया जाता है तो उनको नागरिकता देने के लिये। इस हिन्दुस्तान के जितने हिन्दुओं का हक है उतना ही मुसलमान का हक है और किसी की नागरिकता को कोई ले कैसे सकता है"

Health Ministry has said that 20 thousand 844 passengers from 96 flights have been screened so far for the Novel Coronavirus symptoms. It said, 4082 passengers were screened in 19 flights yesterday. No Coronavirus case has been detected in the country so far. However, three persons have been put under observation. The Ministry said that travel advisory has been extended to 12 more airports in addition to the current seven. The National Institute of Virology, Pune is fully geared up to test samples of Coronavirus. It said, ten other laboratories under Indian Council of Medical Research’s Viral Research and Diagnostics Laboratories network are also equipped to test such samples, if a need arises.


Meanwhile, In Nepal, one person has been found to be infected from the coronavirus. Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said that a person who had recently come back from the Wuhan region of China has been tested positive. The Ministry said, after a preliminary test, his sample was sent to the WHO Collaborating Center Hong Kong for confirmation which has been found positive.


Meanwhile, Chinese health authorities have announced 1,287 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), including 237 in critical conditions. The virus has claimed 41 lives in China, 39 in central Hubei Province alone. Several Chinese provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan have launched the highest level of public health emergency response.

President Ram Nath Kovind will today address the Nation on the eve of the 71st Republic Day. The address would be broadcast on the entire National network of All India Radio and telecast over all channels of Doordarshan from 7 PM in Hindi followed by the English version. Broadcast of the address in Hindi and English on Doordarshan would be followed by broadcast in regional languages by regional channels of Doordarshan. All India Radio will broadcast regional language versions from 9.30 PM onwards on its regional networks.

2G mobile internet services on postpaid as well as prepaid phones have been restored in the Kashmir Valley. However, it can be used to access only 301 websites approved by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. These sites include search engines and those associated with banking, education, news, travel, utilities and employment. The move comes within a week of the administration ordering restoration of prepaid mobile services in the Valley and resumption of 2G mobile data service on whitelisted websites across the Jammu division.


"In a big decision ahead of the Republic Day the Government has ordered restoration of the 2G data services on all post and prepaid mobile telephones and internet access on fixed Lines telephones in the entire Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. this is for the first time in little less than 6 months that Kashmir Valley will get 2G internet services on all Post and Prepaid Mobile Telephones which was snapped a head of August 5 decision on Jammu and Kashmir. According to an official order issued by Principal Secretary to Home Department Jammu and Kashmir Shaleen Kabra, the Social media application will however remain barred on mobile internet data services. Union Tribal Affairs Ministry has proposed 6th Schedule Area status to Union Territory of Ladakh. Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said that his ministry has sent the proposal to the Union Home Ministry to declare 6th Schedule status to Ladakh. Tribal Affairs Minister also assured that his ministry will take all necessary measures to preserve and enrich the rich legacy of Ladakh.


Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk had last month appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to preserve the culture and identity of Ladakh.

The 10th National Voters’ Day (NVD) will be celebrated today. The theme for NVD-2020 is ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy. The theme sets the tone for a year-long activities with focus on voter education and renewal of citizens’ faith in the electoral process. The Day is celebrated on the 25th of January every year since 2011. It is celebrated at over ten lakh locations across the country including polling stations, district and state headquarters, to mark the Foundation day the Election Commission of India, which was established on 25th January 1950. President Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest at the 10th National Voters' Day function which is being organised by the Election Commission of India at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.


"The main purpose of the National Voters' Day celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximise the enrolment, especially for the new voters. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the Day is utilised to spread awareness among voters for promoting informed participation in the electoral process. New Voters are felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card in the functions, organised on this day. In view of  ensuing Assembly elections in the national capital, Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi  is conducting awareness campaign to ensure wider participation of voters specially in low voter turnout Assembly Constituencies. The Outgoing Chair of FEMBoSA,  KM Nurul Huda who is also CEC of Bangladesh, handed over the Logo of FEMBoSA to Mr Arora at the 10th Annual Meeting of FEMBoSA held in New Delhi yesterday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused Congress and AAP of misleading people on the Citizenship Amendment Act. Addressing a rally at Mustafabad in the national capital, Mr Shah alleged that AAP and Congress are instigating people on the issue. He said, Aam Aadmi Party Government in the city has taken Delhi 10 years behind instead of taking it forward in the matter of development. He said, Aam Aadmi Party ruled for five years but failed to deliver any promises. The Home Minister said, Narendra Modi led BJP Government in the Centre gave ownership rights to more than 40 lakh people in 1731 unauthorised colonies in the city.

UK  Prime Minister Boris Johnson has signed the Brexit withdrawal agreement paving the way for UK's exit from the European Union next Friday. Hailing it as a fantastic moment for the country he said he hoped it would bring to an end far too many years of argument and division.


Earlier on Friday, European Union leaders signed the document in Brussels. The signings marked another step in the ratification process, following Parliament's approval of the Brexit bill earlier this week. The European Parliament will vote on the agreement on the 29 of January.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said necessary investigations would be conducted before a death certificate is issued for thousands of people missing from the country’s three-decade long LTTE war. Issuing a statement to clarify certain  media reports quoting the President stating that 20,000 listed as missing are dead, the President’s Media division said in all these reports, the crucial detail that necessary investigations would be conducted before the death certificate would be issued had been wittingly or unwittingly omitted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people in the country and abroad in his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on All India Radio tomorrow. It will be the 61st episode of the monthly radio programme. This time the programme will be broadcast at 6 in the evening. Usually, the monthly programme is  broadcast at 11 AM.


Earlier, in a tweet, Mr Modi said, this year’s first Mann Ki Baat will be held on a very special day, the 26th of January.
