India signed set of new agreements with United Statesincluding MoUs on mental health and safety of medical products and an agreementbetween Indian Oil Corportation and Exxon Mobil for export of LNG. PrimeMinister Narendra Modi addressing media in the joint press briefing after theextensive discussion in Hyderabad house today said that both the countries havedecided to take Indo-US ties to comprehensive global partnership level.


"हर अहम पहलू पर सकारात्मक विचार किए, चाहे वो डिफेंस एंड सिक्योरिटी हो एनर्जी स्ट्रेटजिक पार्टनरशिप हो टेक्नोलॉजी कॉर्पोरेशन हो ग्लोबल कनेक्टिविटी हो ट्रेड relations हों या फिर पीपल टू पीपल ties, भारत और अमेरिका के बीच बढ़ता रक्षा और सुरक्षा सहयोग हमारी strategic पार्टनर शिप का एक बहुत अहम हिस्सा है।"


Purchase of 24 Romeo Helicopters wasalso finalised in the meet. Mr. Modi added that defence cooperation between twocountries is reflective of rising strategic partnership between India and US.He added that both the countries agreed on new mechanism to contain drugtrafficking. Prime Minister said that both the countries have decided toenhance efforts to hold supporters of terrorism accountable. Prime Ministerasserted that both India and US have decided to enhance strategic energypartnership. Mr. Modi said the trade ties have been consistently enhancingbetween the two countries.

 

"पिछले तीन वर्षों में हमारे द्विपक्षीय व्यापार में डबल विजिट ग्रोथ हुई है। और वह ज्यादा संतुलित भी हुआ है। अगर एनर्जी, सिविल एयरक्राफ्ट, डिफेंस और हायर एजुकेशन लें तो पिछले चार-पांच सालों में सिर्फ इन चार सेक्टर्स में ही भारत-अमरीका के आर्थिक संबंधों में लगभग सेवंटी बिलियन डॉलर का योगदान किया है।"


In the opening remarks earlierPresident Trump said that, he felt deeply honoured by the reception received inAhmedabad. Prime Minister Modi thanked President Trump for the visit despitehis engagements in America.  He said boththe countries are committed to protect their citizens from Terrorism.


'Together the Prime Minister and Iare revitalizing the required initiative with United States, India, Australiaand Japan. Since that took off, we have held the first quad ministerial meetingI guess you would call it a meeting but it seems like so much more than thatand expanded  cooperation on Counterterrorism, cyber security and Maritime security to ensure a free and openIndo-Pacific."


President trump said India will buyadvanced US weapons. Discussion was held on wide range of bilateral andregional issues including trade and investment, defence and security,counter-terrorism, energy security and situation in the Indo-Pacific. Sourcessuggest that bilateral agreements and MoUs in the defence and energy sectorshave been signed by both the leaders.

Earlier this morning, the USPresident was given a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the RashtrapatiBhavan. He and First Lady Melania Trump also paid homage to Father of theNation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Mr Trump is slated to meet President Ram NathKovind this evening at a banquet hosted by Mr Kovind in the honour of thevisiting dignitary.

US First Lady Melania Trump todayvisited Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in South Moti Bagh, New Delhi. She interacted withstudents at the Delhi government school and witnessed various activitiesconducted as part of the happiness curriculum. Later speaking to the media shesaid, she was inspired that the students begin their day  by practicing mindfullness.

 

"A short while agoI visited a classroom and observed its Happiness Curriculum. It is veryinspiring to me that the students here begin each day by participatingmildfulness. From mindful breathing, telling a story to a friend, listening toanother classmate or simply connecting with nature. I cannot think of a betterway for all of us to start our day."  

 

Melania Trump said, in the US,she works with children to promote similar ideas of well-being through the BEBEST initiative. Students of the school gifted Madhubani paintings made by themto the First Lady. The School was decked up with floral garlands and motifs,welcoming the US First Lady.

Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a meeting to discuss the currentsituation in the national capital after violence erupted in North-East Delhiover the issue of the  CitizenshipAmendment Act. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal, representatives of different political parties and officials attendedthe meeting.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwaltermed the meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah positive. He said it wasdecided that all parties will take necessary steps to restore peace in Delhi.He said, the police are doing their part and Home Minister has assured thatwhatever force is needed will be provided. 7 people have lost their lives andseveral others were injured in the violence in North East Delhi. Talking tomedia JCP Alok Kumar said, forces are being deployed at sensitive spots:

Meanwhile, Police presence has been steppedup at the Gateway of India yesterday night to thwart any attempt by people togather at the venue to protest against the violence in Delhi.

According to Deputy Commissionerof Police (Operation) Pranay Ashok police personnel have been deployed in largenumbers around the iconic monument, located across the Taj Mahal Palace Hotelin south Mumbai, and barricades put up at nearby roads to restrict movement ofpeople and vehicles.

The Supreme Court today agreed tohear an application filed by former Chief Information Commissioner WajahatHabibullah and others, seeking lodging of FIRs with regard to the recentviolence in Delhi over the amended Citizenship Law. The bench agreed to hearthe matter tomorrow. The application was mentioned for urgent listing before abench of Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph.

The high level committee on theClause Six of the Assam Accord has submitted its report to Chief MinisterSarbanand Sonowal in Guwahati in the presence of his cabinet colleagues. Ourcorrespondent quoting highly placed sources reports that the committee headedby Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sarma has recommended measures to protect theinterest of the indigenous people of the state. However, the recommendationsare yet to be made public. The Assam government will send the reports to theHome Ministry for follow up action. Our Correspondent reports that thecommittee held series of discussions with various groups and individuals beforesubmitting the recommendations. The Centre and the Assam government havealready assured that steps would be taken to implement Clause Six of the AssamAccord.

Biennial elections for 55 Rajya Sabha seats from 17 states will be held onthe 26th of next month. The Election Commission announced today that theseseats are falling vacant in April this year due to the retirement of RajyaSabha members.

Notifications for the biennial elections will be issued on the 6th of Marchand 13th March is the last date for filing of nominations. Scrutiny ofnominations will be done on the 16th March and the last date for withdrawal ofcandidatures is 18th March. Counting will be held in the evening of 26th Marchan hour after the conclusion of polls. Maximum seven seats are falling vacantin Maharashtra followed by six seats in Tamil Nadu.

The first anniversary of theiconic National War Memorial is being observed today. Earlier in the morning,Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and veterans from the three serviceslaid wreath to pay homage to the martyred soldiers.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh ina tweet said, this War Memorial is a tribute to those soldiers who made supremesacrifices in the line of duty. He affirmed that India will always remainindebted to their service and sacrifice.

The memorial is a fitting tributeto those heroes who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during variouswars and internal security challenges since Independence. The monument wasdedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 25th of Februarylast year. Our correspondent has filed this report:

 

"The National War Memorialcommemorates the soldiers who made supreme sacrifice during the counterinsurgency operations and peace keeping missions. More than 25 thousand soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces have laid downtheir lives to defend the country's sovereignty and integrity. For the firsttime Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the soldiers at National WarMemorial instead of the Amar Jawan Jyoti on Republic Day this year. Thememorial helps in strengthening the sense of high moral values, sacrifice andnational pride in the citizens. Mehijabeen, a B.Ed student fromNSR College of Education in Hyderabad is overwhelmed by the cultural exchangesand knowledge sharing about culture and heritage of other places is havingunder the activities of the clubs. She participated in a competition held bythe ROB, Hyderabad and got a prize. She shares her joy over it.

India will send a transport aircraftto the coronavirus-hit Wuhan on February the 26 to deliver medical supplies andrelief material. On the return, it will also bring back more Indians followinga clearance from China. As informed by Ministry of External Affairs, departureof the indian flight to Wuhan is being planned for February 26 and the evacueeswill arrive on February 27.

Earlier, the transport aircraft wasscheduled to fly on February 20 to Wuhan, but was waiting for clearance fromchinese side. Items being supplied are gloves, surgical masks, feeding andinfusion pumps and defibrilators based on the requirements as indicated by thechinese side.
