Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said young India will play a crucial role in the 4th Industrial Revolution. He stressed on the need to take country's economy to new highs and to build a self-sustainable, empowered, prosperous and safe India. He was speaking at annual Prime Minister's NCC Rally 2020 in New Delhi yesterday. Talking about the Citizenship Amendment Act , he said the government has brought the Citizenship Amendment Act to correct historical injustice and to fulfill the BJP's promise to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries.

The Prime Minister added that the problem in Jammu and Kashmir persisted since Independence and terrorism thrived. He stressed that India is moving ahead with a young approach and carries out surgical strikes and airstrikes to fight back terrorism. The Prime Minister said his government has managed to address the aspirations of the northeast region which were neglected for decades. 

"हमने एक तरफ नॉर्थ-ईस्ट के विकास के लिए अभूतपूर्व योजनाओं की शुरूआत की और दूसरी तरफ बहुत ही खुले मन और खुले दिल के साथ सभी स्टेक होल्डर्स के साथ बातचीत शुरू की। बोडो समझौता आज इसी का परिणाम है।"

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has called upon the youth to develop a positive outlook and contribute for building a New India which will be free of poverty, discrimination, inequalities, corruption and hunger. Addressing the Kalam's Convention-2020 held by the Kalam's Institute of Youth Excellence in Hyderabad last evening, he urged them not to support violence and other destructive forces. Stating that peace was the foremost pre-requisite for the development of the country, the Vice President said, there was no scope of violence in democracy and asserted that the ballot was more powerful than a bullet. The Vice President urged the students to always protect the country’s rich heritage and traditions. The Vice President  stressed the need to reorient the education system to nurture children to be creative, imaginative and innovative.

Sharjeel Imam, an activist who came in limelight for inflammatory speeches against the amended Citizenship Act and the planned National Register of Citizens, has been sent on transit remand. Imam was arrested by Delhi Police's Crime Branch from Bihar's Jehanabad yesterday. He was later produced in court which granted the Delhi police his transit remand for 36 hours.

However, Imam has claimed that he had surrendered before the police.  Imam has been booked on sedition and other charges in several states after purported videos of his alleged inflammatory speeches were circulated on social media.

The Enforcement Directorate summoned seven office-bearers of the Kerala-based Popular Front of India (PFI) and an NGO linked to it in connection with a money-laundering probe against them. This was informed by the officials yesterday. They said the office-bearers of PFI and those from the Rehab India Foundation were asked to depose before the investigating officer of the case in New Delhi today. According to sources, the summons were issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The campaign for Delhi Assembly elections is in full swing with prominent leaders of different political parties hitting the ground to woo the voters. Senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani will organize public meetings in different parts of the city today. BJP President J P Nadda, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur will also participate in the election campaign.

Aam Aadmi Party Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior party leader Manish Sisodia will hold roadshows and election meetings in favour of their party candidates.  Delhi Congress President Subhash Chopra and senior party leader Ajay Maken among others will also organize public meetings in different parts of the city.

The polling for the70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on 8th of February and counting will be taken up on 11th February.

Election Commission has announced ban on exit polls from 8 A.M. to 6.30 P.M. on 8th of February in view of Delhi Assembly elections. Polling is scheduled to be held on that day in the national capital.

In its order, the Commission said, there will be restrictions on conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of result of such exit polls by means of print or electronic media or in any other manner during the period.

In Maharashtra, 25 people, including nine women, lost their lives when a speeding State Transport bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, following which both the vehicles fell into a roadside well in Nashik district yesterday.

More than 30 people also suffered injuries in the accident which took place in the afternoon at Meshi Phata on the Malegaon-Deola Road in the North Maharashtra district, around 200 kilometres away from Mumbai.

The State Government has announced financial assistance of 10 lakh rupees each to the next of kins of the deceased. So far, 21 bodies have been pulled out of the well and injured are being treated at state-run hospitals. Rescue operation is still underway at the crash site.

Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan has urged people for self-declaration regarding symptoms of Novel Coronavirus on the National Helpline number. He said, a 24x7 Call Centre is active for responding to queries on the virus. The number is 011-23978046. The Minister said, so far, about 35 thousand passengers have been scanned at the airports. He said, four more labs of Indian Council of Medical Research in Alleppey, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai in addition to National Institute of Virology , Pune have been geared up for testing clinical samples.

"देश में एनआईवी पुणे के बाद चार और स्थानों पर वायरस के टेस्टिंग के लिए फैसीलिटीज क्रिएट कर दी गई है और आने वाले कुछ ही दिनों में ये दस स्थानों पर वायरस को टेस्ट करने की फैसीलिटीज होगी।"

With the deadly Novel Corona virus claiming many lives and infecting thousands of people globally, the World Health Organization, WHO, has called on the international community to remain calm and not overreact. The WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has also assured Beijing all necessary help to contain the virus outbreak.

Nations across the globe are pushing for evacuation of their citizens from China's virus-hit Hubei province. India, US and several other countries are finalizing plans to evacuate their citizens from Hubei province, the epi-centre of the virus outbreak.

The confirmed cases of the Corona virus in China are more than 6,000  and 57 abroad in 14 countries. Death toll has jumped to 132. Among the confirmed cases, 1,239 patients were in critical condition. In a meeting yesterday with WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed confidence that China will conquer Corona virus. WHO said that China has agreed with it’s proposal of sending international experts to China to facilitate better understanding of the Novel Corona virus and guide global response to the disease. "World Health Organisation is continually monitoring the situation and it can reconvene the Emergency Committee  meeting on very short notice as needed. WHO is also launching a Global Clinical Data Platform to allow Member States to contribute anonymized clinical data in order to inform the public health clinical response. China has said, it is likely to have a vaccine for public use within three months. As per Chinese scientists, the number of people infected with this virus will peak in a week to 10 days and the fatality rate is expected to drop in coming weeks. As many countries have cancelled their flights to China, evacuation process at Wuhan airport has started. ANSHUMAN MISHRA, BEIJING."

In Bangladesh, the Rohingya children living in refugee camps  will be allowed to receive formal education. In an interview to AFP yesterday  Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen announced this. Dr. Momen said that Bangladesh does not want a lost generation of Rohingyas and it will provide education to them. The decision came after a meeting of a National Task Force set up by the government.

United States President Donald Trump yesterday said Jerusalem will remain Israel's undivided capital as he unveiled his Middle East peace plan aimed at solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Trump described it as historic and a giant step towards peace.

Standing along with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House, President Trump proposed a two-state solution and said no Israelis or Palestinians would be uprooted from their homes. He proposed Palestinian capital in Eastern Jerusalem and that US will set up its embassy there.

No Palestinian official was present at the launch. Palestinians have already rejected the leaked proposals.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was formally indicted on corruption charges yesterday, hours after he withdrew his request for Parliamentary immunity in the three graft cases against him. Netanyahu has been charged with bribery and fraud and breach of trust in three separate corruption cases. Attorney General submitted the indictment in Jerusalem District Court. Mr Netanyahu will be the first sitting Prime Minister to face trial in the country's history.

Beating the Retreat ceremony, marking the culmination of the four-day long Republic Day celebrations, will be held at the historic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi this evening. Indian tunes will be the flavour of Beating the Retreat ceremony this year too.  Our correspondent reports that Beating Retreat marks a centuries old military tradition, when the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms,withdrew from the battlefield and returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat.

"The ceremony traces its origins to the early 1950s when Major Roberts of the Indian Army indigenously developed the unique ceremony of display by the massed bands. Over the period, it has emerged as an event of national pride. Today, as many as 24 performances on Vijay Chowk will enthrall the spectators with captivating and foot-tapping music of the bands from Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Force. Fifteen Military Bands, 16 Pipe and Drums Band from Regimental Centres and Battalions are participating in the ceremony. The Principal Conductor of the ceremony will be Flying Officer Rupachandra. Diwaker, AIR News Delhi." 

Delhi Traffic police has made elaborate arrangements for the Beating Retreat ceremony. Vijay Chowk will be closed for traffic from 2 P.M. to 9.30 P.M. Rajpath will also be closed for traffic between Vijay Chowk and C Hexagon. It will be open only for pedestrians. Entry and exit gates at Udyog Bhawan and Central Secretariat Metro stations will remain closed from 2 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.

The oldest international event for non-feature films in South Asia, the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation Films, got off to a colourful start in Mumbai last evening.

Addressing the august gathering of diplomats, film-makers and jury members, during the opening ceremony yesterday, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate change, Mr. Babul Supriyo said, documentaries and short films are a source of rich cinematic history which interests and inspires generations to come.

Cold conditions persist in the country's northern region, with high-altitude areas in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir receiving fresh snowfall. Rains lashed Punjab and Haryana as well as the national capital Delhi.

India Meteorological Department, IMD, has forecast fairly widespread rain or snow in hilly areas of north-west of the country today and tomorrow. It also said that there is possibility of heavy snow or rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and hail.

In Cricket, India will try to seal their maiden T20 International series win when they take on New Zealand in the third match at Hamilton today. The match will start at 12.30 P.M Indian time. India won the first two matches in Auckland to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.
